As of about two hours ago, Peter and I are the owners of a 1979 33 foot Hunter named "Gin Mill". She is solid and has lots of goodies and hubby tells me I have a pretty boat.I'll get the specs when he checks in tomorrow morning again, can't remember them right now and am drained from worrying. This is not the boat he went down for but a boat he had as a back up plan..the other boat had wet deck/moisture issues. They head out for open water tomorrow afternoon. So Goodnight my sweet husband, Goodnight Phil/Nice N Easy and Goodnight our Gin Mill. okay here's a quickie: 1979 HUNTER MARINE 33', , Yanmar Disel, roller furling main and genoa, cruising chute, new bimini top drop in air, autopilot, refrigertaion, ready to cruise, many xtras, priced to sell, $18,000

Congratulations!!! Remember that

there are all kinds of ceremonies to rename a boat but there are two things that are pretty much universal; A woman names the boat, and there is alcohol of some kind involved. The alcohol is to give the boat a drink of something better than salt water to start her new life, and the woman is because a sailor (male or female - take that however you want) will come up with whatever story it takes to get a woman close to the boat. It works, too. I've never met a woman who wasn't honoured to break the champagne or pour the whiskey and name the boat.

The new boat

As I write this, I am sitting in the cabin of Barbara and Peters new boat. IT is a good solid boat, pretty damn clean, and pretty well equipped. We sailed her this afternoon, and all is well. Boat sails pretty nice, seems to balance well. Will find out lots more in the next few days, as we are heading north tomorrow. Will be sure and post up more when I can. Sure looking forward to the trip. Weather forecast is about as good as it gets, except maybe a little light on wind. We may be doing a lot of motor sailing, especially an night.

Congrats

Congrats to you both. My hunter 30 is a 1979 vintage. Back then they used lots of glass and hulls are still in great shape today. Fair winds and tides on the trip back. Look forward to meeting on the water maybe around the islands for some stern burgers in paradise. Chuck & Carol Creel S/V Jacobs Dream Fairhope,AL. " Fly Creek Marina " www.sailingmobile.com

Outstanding!

Congratulations. May she bring you much joy and happiness. Part of the fun will be in fixing her up and making her just the way you want, inside and out. When you rename, invoke the Gods of the winds and the sea and remove the old name from everything so that Neptune is not confused! A libation for the boat and for the Gods is in order as an appeasement. Again, congratulations and fair winds.

And now...

you thought the search was the hard, you were wrong. Now, to make it just right to your tastes. I am always finding little tweeks here and there for mine. Just remember to not get too tied up in boat projects and get out there and SAIL HER! Congrats, -J

Congrats and Good luck

At that price no wonder you kept hush about it, I have a 78 ODay that I got for a song & a dance four seasons ago and I've been sailing her and making it the way I want with a major project every winter and small projects in the spring/early summer and there's always something to do. Here's a link for boat renaming which is pretty serious stuff.

Congrats

We have an '81 H33 and would not trade anything for her. We are planning on leaving Saturday for a cruise/tour of the coast. We are leaving Mandeville and going east. Got two weeks with no particular destination and no time schedules. Can't wait. Maybe we will 'see you on the water.' (tribute to Noel and Christy).

Gin Mill sailing update

Good evening all... They took off from Cape Coral yesterday at 3p.m. and they were supposed to reach Sanibel (sp?) yesterday evening to refuel. They made it to Fort Myers to refuel there (I guess they had to go up and around to get out?)and found that the Marina's gas station was closed until the next day 7:30 am. Hubby called and said everything was good when they were going thru the channels. So they ended up going out to dinner. He called this morning before they set sail to say goodbye and everything was then okay. I have not heard from them since. I have not checked the weather out there, have been afraid too to be honest but neighbor mentioned he pulled it up to watch what was going on out there on them earlier in the day and mentioned a few thunderstorms. I will post again if I hear anything, unless Nice N Easy gets a signal on his laptop and posts and or hubby on his cell. Friday was arrival day at Keesler Marina. Oh some of the goodies that came with it was a/c /heater, brand new extra main sail, loran, vhf, autopilot, gps, sooped up refrigerator to make it extra cold, and I am trying to sit here and list what else, cushions were in excellant condition. Roller furling main and jib but hubby thinks he may take the roller furling off of the main because of the snags it gets and I kinda miss the sail cover on that part of the boat, new bimini top, cockpit cushions. It did have a lot of extras like a microwave oh and an omelet maker thats one piece of equipment I just may stare at and wonder how to use it(haha) and tools and spare parts, good life jackets. It did not come with a dinghy but we have one sitting in my foyer still boxed so no worries there. The cockpit also has two seats that extend out over the water...I love that. Hubby says he keeps finding more extra stuff on her like charts and chart book. I'll update more on it once I get to climb aboard and "explore".I can't wait!!!! I know hubby won't want to step aboard her for a day or two after being out on her for so long but thats not stopping me once I drop him off at the house "to rest",<grin>!! Send good sailing wishes their way. B/Seadancer

You might want to call ahead to check the opening schedule of the Rigolets Hwy 90 bridge. I came through last Saturday, got to the bridge at 5PM and had to wait till midnite for an opening. Enjoy your trip, it was beautiful out on the coast.

Left Behind

lol Higgs....you know when the PO's wife came aboard and took back all of her pillows... I believe she was looking for her omelet maker. Hee he he. I bet there are a couple of good stories out there about things left behind you found on boats you all purchased.

Congratulations

on the purchase of your boat!! New boats whether old or new, hold surprises for us. Here's hoping that you have many, many, good days sailing and enjoying the vessel. I know you will have a great time with her. She's something you put a lot of time and thought into and you did your homework. So I know you and yours will enjoy her immensely. The fun is just beginning. Good luck with her. Keep it up, Ctskip The omlette make did it for me too!
