Ross: While this is a very informative article, it is more in the application of the technique than the process. I have my doubts about anyone taking on the repair of a "holing" above the waterline and trying to make it structurally sound & invisible. This would require someone that is trained and has had substancial experience making this type of repair totally transparent.

Someone that owns the vessel may not care if they were able to make this type of repair to save a few thousand dollars, but it may make the difference between a sale and no sale for a prospective buyer.

So I would say that someone that wishes to sell a vessel that has damage, hire a professional fiberglass person to do a quality repair. It may mean the difference between a sale or a major reduction in your asking price. This article would be good when you are interviewing a potential repair person to know if they are approaching the repair in a craftman like method.

Steve, I very much agree with you about the cosmetic quality of a repair and the resale value.
I think that this paper provides answers to the many question that arise here concerning the best methods and materials. For those with limited skills it provides a base of knowledge for discussing a repair order. For those planning a project, it can be the go to reference for proceeding without making too many mistakes.
