A post on electronics got me thinking about how nicely the marine industry does in supplying us good quality products and service - for the most part. While we certainly pay a premium for it, there does not seem to be alot of crap products out there put out by major companies. Once in a while a "Canvas Shop" pops up, but for the most part, I think we deal with an industry that is pretty high quality. Thoughts?

I agree

I have also found that most of the people in the industry, at least the ones I have come in contact with, are also knowledgeable and trustworthy. A gratifying situation.

Other thought

I observed that most sailors are having problem accept new products or new brand name, which meaning it's hard for new comer to entering boating hardware market, electronics or any type of hardware. People would stay with the products or brand name they knew from other ads or boater and pay a good premium for that willingly. Nowadays, it's not that difficult to make reliable electronic products(hardware.) Actually any person with electronic know-how knows how to do it or at least how it should be made according to their intend application and environment. There is no secret in this business. Marine or non-marine, no difference. If you have any doubt, go visit an electronic assembly line(you probably saw it on TV already) than you will be convinced.
