Just right for the family

There are many marinas on the St Joe river, the one that we are at is pretty buisy during the day. When the sun goes down the partys keep going but at a low level so all the kids that are there and some of our older boaters can go to sleep. Its pretty friendly, just about everyone will lend you a hand wether you want them to or not.

Pier 39's JUMPIN!

I keep my boat at a marina that is at the center of San Francisco tourism. Parking is scarce, the sea lions are loud, the surge is horrible, but man, is it a GREAT location in the SF bay to be. Just a quick beam reach outside of the seawall, and you're in the middle of the 'slot'. I have several friends with boats there, and the only problem is that there are too many GREAT boats ready and willing, but not enough people to go along! There's great bars nearby for after the sail, and the atmosphere among fellow sailors is just fantastic. It's quite a wonderful spot. Fair winds!!

More Activity Again

With 20 years as a Dockmaster, I've noticed that in the past 10 years the Marina scene has gotten busier and busier. The neighbors are out and about and getting together for potlucks and parties. There are always people willing to help out with tools, tips and docking. Solitude most likely will be found at a nearby anchorage or at sea. The Marina is a very social environment by day but still manages to find some peace and quiet by night.Today's boaters use thier boats more than ever. Given the economy most can't afford to keep a boat if they don't use it. It's not like the days gone by when people owned boats that would just sit. They use their boats now and enjoy them. With the World's stress we need our boats now more than ever.

Not Bad

We are in Spa Creek a little upstream from the bridge. We like it because it is a short walk to downtown Annapolis and the Naval Academy. The drawback is the congestion both on the water and on the highways but that is Annapolis and we think the happiness we get is well worththe crowds. There is always something happening in Annapolis and that fits with our life style.

Home away from Home...

...because my home is my marina. Can't afford slip fees, just yet. In fact, because I don't even have a driveway, my "fleet" moors in the garage between sails. I've been using South Shore Boat Launch in Long Beach, which has ben very quiet. The powerboaters are fairly courteous; I have only seen 2 other trailer-sailors there since last Labor Day.

A ship is safe...

..in harbor, but that is not what ships are made for. I have always loved marina's and harbors, and Emery Cove definitely inhances the 'day on the bay' experience. The nieghbors I have met are fun folks and love to talk boats. The harbor master and crew are of the highest caliber. Like most harbors, there is promise of adventure in the air and a sense of stories not yet told. A stormy night with wind singing in the rigging lulls me to sleep with no need for an anchor watchFee simple ownership rocks! Danna Smith covered the "two faces" (and dock personality issues) great. Quiet privat dock

I have stayed in many marinas from Annapolis to Kent Island to Deal, Shadyside, and Colonial Beach but I have enjoyed the privelege of keeping my boat at a friends privat dock up Mill Creek at Solomons, Md. the last few years. It is well maintained, plenty of water and elec, and only a few other boats. All season we are blessed with visitors from all over the world in the anchorage area just off the piers. A large brigantine from New Zeland, 50-60 footers flying colors from all over Europe, South America and, of course, Canada. I usually motor out to them and welcome them to Mill Creek. They always want to know where the Tiki Bar is so I direct them. Kind of an unoficial welcoming party. Our little marina is quiet when you want quiet and yet can get noisy at times. A great mix.

Quiet but Active

People come and go but are for the most part very quiet. There the regulars, we all know each other, we stand around giving out expert advice (not) and kill some brain cells with some micro brew. There are many who come, hop on their boats and leave for the Islands and the only time we see them is when they're loading the boat. Through many boats and Marina's (having even worked at one, a very wild one) I've met only one person who wasn't happy, a very short guy with a very big cigarette boat (is there something missing?) who used my slip one day, but he cooled off very quick after an assisted dive off the dock.

DOUBLE AS A JET SKI RENTAL

MY MARINA IS A BUSTLING PLACE DURING THE DAY.The Jet ski's and such are far enough away so there is not much noise. And the view is spectacular with scantily clad women in string bikini's coming and going from the rental shack!At night it is quite tranquil the rental place is closed and the marina is quiet with the exception of the boats rocking and swaying in the calm waters

Buckeye Ocean

Lisa, you are right Papa Booze does have allot going on in the summer as do a other pubs/resturants around the Lake.I hope to own my first sail boat this spring, I have been looking at Macgregor 26's but haven't found something for the price I want to pay..I think I have seen your boat docked there as well as some others docked there.Fair winds Patrick... scorpio_mohio@yahoo.com

A Wonderful Place to Be!

Whitney's Marine in Orange Park Florida is everything that I could hope for. The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. They go beyond the extra mile to ensure that the boat and its people are well taken care of! They are also a full service Hunter dealer and live up to the name with pride. As for the neighbors they are also very friendly and helpful. In fact one of them took the time to teach me the basics.We watch over each others boats like they were ours. I am very proud of them all!

Jeff,This sounds like HPYC. We were new members last season and love tinkering in the boatyard, socializing with the other members and getting under sail.
