Got a little luck with Ida. Were over in the Fla. panhandle, sort of goofing off and watching for a weather window. Nothing looked very promising, but then Ida kind of made the decision for us. Ended up making it back to Slidell in two pretty nice days, one day before Ida made it. Actually the weather was much better than forecast, and a little more breeze would have been welcome. As it was ended up motor sailing all day the second day, as not enough wind to make any decent boat speed, and was DDW. Good thing as there aren't many hurricane holes between here and there, and the forecast was for protected waters to be " extremely rough" beginning the afternoon we arrived.

RE: Mad Dash

Don't you just hate it when these storms pop up so near the end of the "season". Glad you were able to make it back with no problems. I'm sure others weren't as lucky.

We're stuck here north of Belhaven, NC in Dowry Cr Marina. We pulled in Tue just ahead of the wind/rain. It's been raining almost constantly since then. Last night was the worst so far. The wind has been out of the north and we are in a slip pointing SE so we take everthing on the port qtr. Don't know the actual wind strength last night, but it had to be high 30s gusting over 40. We were heeling bad in the slip and the wind racket in the rigging had me up at 3AM. I began to worry about the piling pulling out of the bottom. It must be in there good. Forecasts through Fri don't look much better. It's almost a repeat of the 2007 trip when we holed-up for remnants of Hurricane Noel. It's too bad we didn't get a little further south so we could ride this out in that little creek we used then. Oh well, we did have two great nights of anchoring before this mess started. Thank goodness for the boater's lounge, happy hour and pot luck dinners.

Crap, raining like h3ll again and the wind is really singing through the rigging. Times like this make you wish for radar so we could see what's coming our way.

Re: Mad Dash

Glad you made it back safe. Better to deploy the iron jib than the drogue.
