The little metal plug at bottom of keel

The previous owner glassed it over.
I just sanded it down so I can see it again.
It looks really soft and the slot is not very crisp at all.

If I bugger up the plug, are they easily replaced?

Just for the group record, I got the metal plug out today.
I used a dremmel tool to cut the screwdriver slot deeper and more crisp.
After it was out, I used a mini-file to make the slot even nicer.
