The Lite Cylinder Propane Tank Recall

There is a group of skippers with brand new mid-sized Catalinas that have only a Google group rather than an Association website for their communications. That Google group is all agoggle about Catalina NOT telling all the owners about this issue. It seems to me they may not be as attuned to issues in the industry because they limit themselves to their Google group rather than that one as well as other website message boards, as well as the potential complacency that may come with new boats, and the expectation that the builder will advise them of all issues of third party vendor equipment on their boats. They're really mad at Catalina, when they should be mad at the vendor. And of the 100 or so new skippers of these boats, only a handful seem to be active on their Google group, although there could always be more lurkers than writers.

As I understand it, the tank company got dinged by the Feds, but then went out of business so quickly that they simply couldn't let everybody who could possibly have purchased their stuff about it.

I really feel for those skippers with brand new boats, but kinda sometimes feel they should expand their website horizons a bit beyond only their boat. It seems there's a lot of back and forth, and learning going on here on this website that is really heartening to see on a daily basis.
Hi Stu,

Just sent you a PM so this doesn't get off topic. I actually found out about this situation on the google message board before it appeared on this and the other forums. It was a conscientious dealer who notified an owner. Given the potential seriousness of this situation and the fact that GD follows these message boards, some are wondering why they couldn't notify dealers and/or owners given most of these boats are still under warranty and we are not talking about a water pump.
Having said that, I happen to be one who does try to get as much information and knowledge from these types of forums--but I am a hard core DIYer and I don't know that we have that critical mass--yet...For now, I am often a link between these forums and our current group...hopefully that changes ;)
I have also notified several skippers at our marina (not Catalina owners) who had no idea, and these folks are liveaboards and definitely DIYers...
Just installed my new Worthington aluminum tank yesterday....

Jim,
i bought the Worthington aluminum tank I linked above @ Ø10.3 and it fit like a glove. You may want to see if that will fit. It's a good looking tank and should stand up well. I'll miss the see through fiberglass tank. Good luck!
