Has anyone out there travelled the ICW from New York to Florida? What list of Charts are required?

Norfolk to Miami

The Intercoastal Waterway Chartbook edited by John and Leslie Kettlewell works great. It is spiral bound and works like a big AAA trip-tik. Also, the Intracoastal Waterway Facilities Guide was very useful and covered facilities from Maine to Mobile Alabama. It's a fun trip well worth doing.

Maptech Chartkits

When I did Fort Lauderdale to cape Cod we used the spiral bound charykits from Maptech. They are avaiable everywhere including wWest Marine for about $100 per kit. The are numbered sequentially from region one though region six which gets you up to Canada. You don't need all six but they are great to deal with. Also for the Intercoastal (though we spent only one day there and stayed outside the rest of the time) I'd highly recommend the Skipper Bob publications which tell you all about facilities enroute, where to anchor, low water caution areas etc.. C-MAP nakes the C-Map NT chips for chartplotters for the whole east coast too if your boat is so equipped. They are right here on Cape Cod and are a great company to deal with and their new wide area charts require fewer chips and decrease the cost. Have a blast! Bob Knott H380

Norfolk to Keys

Hi John, Endless Summer (H31) brought Susie and I from Norfolk, VA to the Florida Keys in 1996. You can take a look at our log on our web site www.cruisingendlesssummer.com I think there is also a list of recommended books, charts, etc there. If not let me know. I also made a spreadsheet of everything I thought would be significant along the way. I'd be happy to email it to you. It's in Excel. I am sure some things have changed since 1996, but most of it has not. For example, in our log you will read that you need to be very careful as you pass Ponce de Leon inlet in Florida and Matanzas Inlet also in Florida. Where do you plan to go in Florida and when? We are in Boynton Beach, Florida for now, but plan to head farther south in a month or so. Let me know if I can help. Roger Mummah
