I've lived in Central FL for over 15 years now and have been a sailboat owner for just the last year. In the 15 years I've lived here we've had two hurricanes hit...unfortunately they were both in the past three weeks...and now Ivan's coming!?!?!? I wouldn't mind seeing Ivan make landfall somewhere around North Dakota. "Oh big wind don't you blow, keep the water in the ocean so my boat can float ... we've got nothing to fear except the hurricane's blow."

Sounds like a Michael McCloud fan.

You must spend time in Key West. He's one of my favorites.

tryin' to reason with hurricane season...

I saw Michael McCloud when I was in Key West. Bought his CD--the one named after his first ex-wife Greta, with the photo of her...uhh...twins. Brings back mammaries. I need to go back there.

Extraordinary, Greg

One would think inland would be safer. A real tragedy to see those downed sailboats. It appears the docks couldn't stand the wind. All of us lament your loss, get to refloat!

Actually, my boat is OK...

The picture I posted earlier was of the Port Orange Marina, just south of Daytona Beach. Fortunately for me my boat was at a marina on the other side of the ICW, directly accross from the Port Orange Marina. I was on the leeward side of the barrier island. The Port Orange Marina is on what was the windward side of the mainland. They took the full-on hurricane force gusts coming accross the ICW.

Mark, I have the C27 docked right in front of Pat's. Are you at a marina or do you have your's in your backyard down there in Ponce ;)

Its still in the river right now

I used three anchors and let it sit in the river,..no damage. How did you know where I keep my boat?

Just a guess...

I know a lot of homes in Ponce have deep water canals in their backyard. Ivan is looking uglier by the hour. Suppose any chance we catch 3 hurricanes in 6 weeks?

My situation

I like my boat, so I don't take chances. Last week I attended all the dances with Frances. This week I'm still afloat, and so it moves me to emote-Life is good! We are happy and thrivin', Dear God leave us be- WE DO NOT NEED IVAN!

crazy cracker

trying to reason.....

...with hurricane season, just can't do it. Hurricanes weed out the weak and non-indigenous. I've been a Cracker from birth and will be one when hurricane what's-her-name finally kills me, hopefully many years from now. Until than, I will remain a true Cracker come both hell and high water. Though I gotta say, I'm not thrilled with this hurricane trilogy, it's gettin' damm old right now.

Damn Straight Cracker

If it sends them Yankees back where they came from or anywhere else for that matter these storm can't be all bad. Just crank up the Skynyrd and let it blow.

Anchored Boats

Most of the damaged boats seem to be in a marina. I would like to hear from boat owners that moved their boats out to more secure places or used some Queen Mary anchors(BIG) and how the boats survived. My boat did not have a scratch years ago when the marina owner insisted all boats leave his marina during a hurricane to protect his investment. I had a hurricane hole all picked out in May before the season started. A marina can destroy your boat.

I'm still uneasy

I had no serious damage from either storm, but I can't shake the feeling that we're going to get hit again here in central Florida. On top of all that, I have family and friends in Jamaica and Cayman who are square in Ivan's path. This storm is no joke. See the link below for a report from the Trinidad Express. If you're interested, there are links to other Caribbean news agencies on the left of the Express web page near the bottom, Peter H23 "Raven"
