This wintry weather has slowed us down even here in the sunshine state. I watched a movie last night about the USCG rescue swimmers called the Guardian. It was going to be filmed in New Orleans but Katrina struck and it had to be done at an alternate location. It is amazing the way these guys and gals train and the job they do. Being non-combatants and formerly attached to the Department of Transportation they received little recognition except from the people that had been saved. After Katrina and seeing the excellent job they do protecting our homeland they have all our respect. These guys besides being the strongest swimmers in the world have EMS skills and have decision making power about a rescue mission once they are at the scene. The movie was well done, not particularly a fan of Kevin Kostner but would watch it again. The commentaries on the DVD are filled by actual swimmers and instructors and their families. Go to your video store, get som popcorn and settle down.
