A buddy just posted a pic I thought was looooong gone. In fact I was having a discussion with another guy who fishes blue fin just last week telling him about the "monster" and he told me I was "full of $hit".. I guess I can send him the pic now...

My buddy Kyle caught this behemoth back in 1991 on an 80 weight rod, stand up (not in a fighting chair). The dock scale weight (Wentworth Marina, NH) was 1034.5 pounds but they got paid on the buyers "official weight" which was 1060 pounds... I don't think a larger Blue Fin has been landed on 80 or 130 weight rods, in the North East, since Kyles fish ..

1060 pound Blue Fin on 80 weight !!!!!!!!!!!! You can't make this stuff up... Sadly Captain Roy, the guy on the left is no longer with us. He was 200 pounds of character packed inot a 120 pound bag. Kind of a cross between Jimmy Buffett and Laslow from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas... Best damn fishing captain I ever knew though.....

Blue Fin fishing was one of the best jobs I ever had and NO I never landed one even close to 1060 but we did boat a few big ones........

Very, very nice fish & on 80 weight tackle standing up, better man than me. I think the biggest we ever caught was just shy of 600. Between the picture & your mention of the marina reminded me of when we took 2nd place fishing the first Wentworth tuna tournement. Thanks for posting the picture, it's brought back alot of memories!

One day whilst out fishing it occurred to me that I had no right to put such beautiful and harmless creatures to death just for my fun.

I was in Trinity Bay, Nwfld, in 1965 when a massive 1350 lb. Atl. Bluefin was landed .... absolutely incredible. At that time is was a world record.

That think is worth a bunch of bucks on the Japanese market. Donalex, I only fish when offshore, and limit myself to one fish per day, and only large enough for one meal. All others go back where they came from. But there is absolutely nothing better than a fillet, straight from the water to the grill.

To put that fish in perspective "Captain Roy (no shirt) was about 6' 4" tall. I forget what that fish brought but it was a lot as she had some fat on her....
