We had a wonderful sail in light air and warm sunshine across Penobscot Bay to Cabot Cove on North Haven Island. With the few cottages on the shore closed up for the winter, and no boats in the water, we had the cove to ourselves for a day and a night. We burned quite a few tiny hardwood logs in the old fireplace that kept us very warm.

Rowing the perimeter of the sleepy cove, we came on this end of the season picture.

Early the next morning we had our first company, 3 Guillimots in their winter plumage just off our bow.

The joys of sailing so near and feeling so far... Some of my favourite anchorages are no more than an hour away and more often than not enjoyed best in the autumn, sorry, fall.

I have just retured to the UK from Portland Conn having had a fortnight on Black Star I am determined to put her into the water and go down river in September next year and perhaps enter the sound to delight in the fall there. This will I am sure give me more impetus to get her finished and explore further coasts.

I'll bet the little fireplace comes in handy this time of year! Hopefully we'll catch up with you next season.
