The first thing you'll do when you can sail again?

Some owners have been separated from their boats due to closed marinas, stay at home orders, or no available boat lifts.

If you fit the description, what's the first thing you'll do when you're reunited with your vessel?

Deferred maintenance, a short sail, or will a beer in the cockpit have to do? Tell us your plans!

Catch up with the planned maintenance projects that got put on hold.

Then stretch out the new sails, dress up the old girl and go for a sail.

A flotilla rendezvous in order once our one wayward skipper returns from his Mexico sabbatical and sorts his boat. The big question, where will we go this season? Will the border open for this season? Do we have enough provisions on board? Who will the wayward skipper get to crew his boat this season?

The mama looked down and spit on the ground
Everytime my name gets mentioned
The papa said oy if I get that boy
I'm gonna stick him in the house of detention
Well I'm on my way
I don't know where I'm going
I'm on my way

I'm taking my time
But I don't know where
Goodbye to Rosie the queen of Corona
See you, me and Julio

Probably what we used to say about the first thing we'll do when we get back from deployment.

"The first thing I'll do is open a cold can of beer. The third thing I'll do is drink that warm can of beer".;)

Of course - sail in between. What were you thinking?

Was looking fwd to sail with my new Genny. Bent it and it was about 3’ short in the hoist. “Crap”. A polite four letter word. Talked to the sailmaker with pics and he said he could have read his tape wrong. Now, I am in Anacortes WA and he is in BC and the border is now closed. So, I have to take the luff measurement and it agrees with his calculated mistake. So, he said new sail coming end of next week. His sails are locally made in his loft. I’m so glad he just ponied up and said new sail so no pissing contest re recut sail at new sail price. So, maybe end of next week with a new Genny! Mistakes happen and a shout out to UK Halsey Sydney BC!

May brought in great weather for our first sailing weekend. It coincided with the town opening up the municipal dock.
I was able to launch on Friday. Finished up removing the accumulated tools, stowing equipment and getting it in ship shape. Celebrated with a shot of ice cold Tito's.
Saturday hung the Genoa and went for a 3 hour sail. Celebrated with a shot of ice cold Tito's.
Sunday hung the Main and went for a 3.5 hour sail. Celebrated with a shot of ice cold Tito's.

We motor pass the long municipal boardwalk on the way out to the bay and back. A lot of people, most all wearing masks, were out and about. All appeared to be in a good mood, waving and talking to us as we went past.

Take in lines and go for a sail as soon as Larry Lockdown decrees it.

Marinas up here are still closed to the public. Marinas are now allowed to work on boats and launch, but boats must stay tied to the dock. A lot of the marinas in our area cater to cottagers that have boat access only type cottages. It takes them several weeks to get all of these boats out of storage and in the water. For people like me that do the work myself, I'm on hold, but there still calling for snow and below freezing temps this weekend so wouldn't be going up yet anyways.

I will be doing a few small maintenance projects over the next couple weeks under the shrink wrap. The stay at home order for IL has been extended through May. Hopefully not beyond that, but we can only wait and see.
My yacht yard is now officially open for socially distanced boat work. Unfortunately our harbors are all in city lakefront parks which have been closed by the mayor to prevent gatherings, so boaters will not have harbor access until the parks are re-opened for everyone. We will get pro-rated slip fee refunds, credited to the 2021 season, for each day the harbors remain closed after May 15. Normal opening date is April 15, but I never launch before mid-May anyway. April on Lake Michigan is to cold for me.
I am reluctant to un-winterize before I have a confirmed launch/bridge opening date; hopefully early to mid June. When we have that date, everyone will be in a mad rush to get out there. Looks like a short summer of mostly solo sailing and reduced gatherings at the yacht club.

Just announced by the Maryland Governor - “All of our doctors and scientists are now in agreement that we are able to move forward with some additional low risk outdoor activities. So effective tomorrow at 7 AM the list of safe outdoor activities will be broadened to now include ... boating...”

I’m going sailing.

Frankly, I don't give a rip about what our governor says. As long as the gate is open at the marina, I'm going out sailing and have been doing so for weeks. Lots of boats are out. People don't pay attention to nonsense.

Powerwashed the boat for 2+ hours because it was soooo dirty from being neglected for months... Then went for a quite nice sail.

Dana's never been closed.
