I read in a local paper this morning that Brad Pitt and his spouse Angelina Jolie are in talks to order a new boat, cost $307 million. Amongst the other necessities of life, the vessel apparently will have: 1. 7 elevators, 2. 8 decks, 3. the ability to carry 8 limosines, 4. 8 launches, 5. a submarine, 6. 3 helicopters, 7. 5 swimming pools, 8. his and hers 'wellness centers' 9. a cruising speed of 20 knots............. Why do they not just buy a small African country and help out the locals? Ho hum.

The Excess of the Not So Really Wealthy

That's nothing, I have: 1. 1 elevator (a TopClimber), 2. 1 decks, 3. the ability to carry 8 passengers, 4. 8 PFD's, 5. a sunken German submarine about 60mi off the AC coast, 6. 2 helicopters (1 NJSP and 1 USCG sitting about 300 yards from my slip), 7. 1 big swimming pool (The Atlantic), 8. his and hers 'wellness centers' (the Head!) 9. a cruising speed of 7.5 knots (on a good day!)............. Ahhh, life is good! ;D Jack Manning s/v Victim of Fate Atlantic City, NJ

Pete, consider how many people will find work

filling that order and crewing that ship. It is just a redistribution of wealth.

I kinda doubt this one.....

the rumors report the price at somewhere between $140 and $300 million. Hey, both of them make good money - probably $10 million per film, maybe more - but how many films can they make in a year? According to on celebrity ranking site, Pitt made $25 million and Jolie $14 million a year ago. $39 million sounds like a lot, but once you take taxes, agent fees and living expenses (these people don't live frugally, you know), I don't think the few million left over is going to finance a mega-yacht like that. Hey, maybe the adoption service in Vietnam needed convincing that they are rich. ;D Cheers, Bob s/v X SAIL R 8

Tony..

No, it's not Air Logistics. I don't know if I'd want to be flying from rig to rig in the Gulf. This particular MD902 is owned and operated by a government entity here in NY. About half of what we do is medevac - we also do things like search and rescue, FLIR work, and a few other things...

Not just the Rich....

Are we less guilty? Excess seems to be the general trend amongst most of the western world. Back in the 50's the average new house size was around 1000 sq ft and had 5 or so people living in it. Today we're building training castles for 2 with no end in the urban sprawl. SUV's are pretty much the vehicle to drive, even if it is just a single person commute, got to be loaded though. We are consumer driven and pretty much everything is disposable, and it goes on and on.... In our greed, we have to thank ourselves for our own personal contributions to global warming with the excesses that we have. Funny part is that we get really upset when gas goes through the roof, or when other countries such as China or India start to raise themselves out of the third world and are now competing for the same limited resources (oil) that we felt was our own, despite its location in the world. The sad part of it is that we taken our affluence, gone to poorer countries, bought up the best and develop it with the same or greater affluence that we have at home. There is anger and resentment building around the world over foreigners coming in, buying up the best of the best, developing them and leaving nothing that the locals can afford. Arguments can be made that the development helps the local economy but that doesn't sit well with someone living in a community as they have for generations and their children can't afford to live there due to development and their wages never moved. Sadder yet, is that we do not seem to recognize that we are guests in those foreign countries. I was in a restaurant in Mexico recently and overheard a woman saying to the waiter "You don't understand, your Mexicans are really nice, they are not like our Mexicans at all..."

Well said, Rick A

And we can thank all of this to "CAPITALISM". Capitalism is great. Look how American enjoy their materialism and how rest of the world envy about it. The problem: There are almost six billions of human wanted to live like American.

they are....

Think Positive!!! They are funding a poorer country!!!!! Many such boats are built in Turkey - and this $$$$ will go to people and suppliers who need the work!!! They also have to earn that money - and pay taxes when they do.... --jerry

I walked the docks of a marina at la large lake

and there were dozens of nice sailboats (nothuing too extravagant, but some nice ones. They ghad all kinds of expensive looking sail control and navigation equiptment, and they almost all looked like they had not sailed in years...lots of growth and cobwebs... I don't know if it they were just sitting for the winter...but I do know that the weather was wonderful and niot one was out on the lake. I have seen lots of marina's with lots of boats that just seem to sit there. I bet there are lots of poor, striving for middle class, lads that would absolutetly love to sail one of these boats...heck, i walked around salivating at all the accessories that always seem way too expensive to me...There was probably 400 to 600 thousand dollars worth of boats (or more...)just waiting to be sailed at this one marina. Maybe if they can afford a 30-300,000 $ boat they have to spend more time working to pay for it? Or perhaps, I guess, it could just be that passions come and go in life...

Mega Yachts

My guess is they'll use the boat a few days a year and lease it out the rest of the time. Lots of tax advantages and income opportunity here. Many people would pay a LOT of money to sleep in B & A's bed and brag about it after. Similar to lease arrangements for private jets.

Mega-yacht Mega-this

I think someone is pulling someone's chain. According to the grocer's tabloid, Angelina is leaving Brad. Maybe I'll send her some photo's of me shirtless on my boat (already built) to make her purrrrrr. But do I really want to be her "rebound"?

Mega Yacht Hoax

Well don't I feel foolish...bought this thread hook, line and sinker... After some reflection, I checked thesuperficial.com, the most authoritative website for such matters. It appears even superficial celebrities are being introduced to the concept of Boat Dollars. The rumors are that the yacht (If it is ever built) will cost between $140-$268, have only one swimming pool, heliport, and submarine. Also, Michael Jackson is going to captain the boat and will babysit when they are away making movies or adopting more children. The editor of the website makes this observation: "Even combined I don't think Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are worth that much. And if they are, after the yacht they'll have, oh, about zero dollars left. I don't know how glamorous their relationship is gonna be when pictures start surfacing of them stealing from homeless people and eating piles of dirt. "
