Not Bayfield, but Marquette Harbor on Lake Superior got snow over the weekend.

Sigh.

Jack,

Sorry you are getting into the winter Shizz pal.
However on the horizon is:
"GLOBAL WARMING"

Be patient & soon you too can sail all year-round!

Seriously though, I do feel bad for you guys.

Are you still in the water? When do you haul?

That long expanse of cold sweetwater just looks forbidding

Ah, Marquette, where the seasons change from good snowmobiling weather to bad snowmobiling weather.

Great little town, BTW.

Kestrel still in, but ready to get pulled within a week. We want to last out, so we can be first in in the spring. That's what we call a 'snow sky'.

But at least another month of sailing on BlueJ in Minneapolis. The that day that Marquette pix was taken, this was us on Minnetonka, a fun-sail with the our crew (and the crew of CB32863's First235 Seeker) in 15-20 knots of perfect SW breeze.

I am already out of the water. I have some boat work to do and I also knew that my season was drawing to a close because I tend to busy this time of year.

Why oh why did someone have to post the white stuff already! Ewwwww!

Dry docking my 25 foot Coronado almost 8 years ago in Chicago cost $1200 with one launch and haul out included. Sucks how much it costs...

Sail trim must be taking a back seat at the end of the season ... I see a lot of idle hands and nobody seems to be paying ANY attention to the telltales! Skipper seems to be tolerating a complete disintegration of discipline!

JD, I just looked up Lake Minnetonka on Google maps. That's a complicated lake layout. It must make for some very "interesting" racing, especially if it's subject to the usual lake wind shifts.

Exactly. Every spring the club holds a seminar on how to read wind in the W/L race area. We even give out cheat sheets to take notes on what the local experts think for each major wind direction. Everyone want to hear what Billy Allen thinks. Dudes got a gold medal. Must know something.

The much longer around the island distance races can be insane. You cannot know what to expect except the unexpected. We've done races that were upwind the entire way. We've also had one where we never dropped our kite; started and finished it it up. That was a BlueJ favorite.
