The Cruising boat Size Question was a Scam!

Gentlemen, First of all, Thanks to all those of you that took time to reply to the cruising boat size question. Now to fess-up to a little trickery. The reason I went out of my way to compile all that size related data was to let everyone see that unless you have some serious $$$,$$$.00 to spend on your choice, there is really 'NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES' between any of the Cruising boats you could choose from in the entire size range 30 to 45 feet. So for the vast majority of 'Us' (Me included) that don't have the 'Big Bucks', the final selection ALL comes down to a matter of a few personal choices that are all tied to one or more trade offs! Big surprise, right? And finally, as so many of you have already pointed out, the most important thing that really matters is being happy with YOUR Choice! That was the moral of this story. Regards, James

What

James, the moral of this story is honesty. There are a lot of us that use this site to get real honest answers to real honest questions. Please do not muddy up the waters to prove a point we all know the answer to anyway.

Waste

James, please refrain from wasting our time. I come to this sight specifically to learn solutions to problems I am facing and to offer suggestion that my fellow sailboaters are facing and I may have eancountered or researched. Thank you.

You said "the most important thing that really matters is being happy with YOUR Choice! That was the moral of this story" The moral of the story is that you have no shame, we don't come here so people like you can play head games. Tom s/v GAIA

oh forPete's sake

The guy that runs this forum does the same thing all the time. Ask any question you like...who knows where it will go. Look at Steph and Brian's stuff. Dude's you need to realize 90% of the stuff on here is just so we have a place to go to when we finish the Washington Post and New York Times. I've read some stuff that I find outrageously bizzare and then find out the poster, asking questions about big boats and stuff, owns a whopping 22 foot trailer sailer. So now you want to bury this guy? Hit BACK. Get on with life. And fair winds to all.

Big deal

I did not respond to this thread, but if I had it would not matter. Sometimes my visits/posts here is to find out info, but most of the time I just enjoy talking about boats, especially during the winter. Throw out a topic and if it catches my attention, I am happy to put in my $.02 even if it is a hypothetical situation.

Lighten up

I've only recently started to read this and other sailing forums (fora??) since I've recently purchased my first serious boat. The single most striking thing I've discovered is that they can be very helpful. The second thing I've discovered is that they are full of a lot of people that are overly obsessed with their own opinion of what's important. Not to mention what's right! Life isn't so serious, guys. Lighten up! The topics that are serious deserve serious discussion. Most of the topics are just guys engaging in the same kind of random discussion found at any bar at any marina in the world. One poster said that he "didn't have time" for threads such as this one. If that were true, If, infact, he had more important things to do, HE'D BE DOING THEM! The truth is people that read this and other blogs typically don't have more important things to do at that particular time. In fact many are trying to take a break from the important things in our lives. If you don't have the time, then simply leave it alone. It was an interesting thread. I learned a little about bigger boats. I learned that the thought processes that went into the purchase of my boat were pretty consistent with others. I also learned that I want to sail because I want to sail. Some people want to sail so that they can solve problems. Others sail in order to break and then fix things. All of these things are valid. Just don't think that those of us that aren't interested in obsessing over the obscurata of sailing are somehow not real sailors. I, for one, have enough serious stuff in my life. Just let sailing be recreation for me!

Some of you guys take yourselves way too seriously

Give the guy a break. If you can survive the: Best coffee method threads Best chili best pizza best prop propane safety who makes the best sails Oh, and let us not forget the thousands of threads on the best bottom paint or how to strip, barrier coat, and paint your bottom. On and on and on...SHIT! every subject has been covered at one time or another ad nauseam. But STILL, you toss in your two-cents without bitching. This is a forum to ask questions. Most questions have already been beaten to death in a multitude of threads. Why don't they simply do away with the forum and just have a link to an archive search and be done with it? The fact of the matter is that none of you people have anything better to do right now but be on this forum. The sailing world is not going to collapse without your postings or without this forum altogether. If this is the place where you do your most important work, you need to get a life. This guy's thread was important enough for you to toss in your opinion and to read other's responses so what's the difference now? So you don't like the sideline for the thread. Big frigging deal. Like none of you geniuses never posted something others thought was useless. By the way, I thought some of the replies to the thread were pretty interesting. I enjoy reading people's opinions. You can pretty much take something good away with you from most every thread. Sheesh...and I thought sailors were supposed to be a laid-back, easy-going bunch. Quit taking yourselves so seriously, you're not that important. Cheers, Bob

James...

I think your current post is the scam to provide cover for the first post which revealed your embarrassingly small knowledge of sailboats. In any case...the lesson learned is not to respond to your posts any more!

Any

question that make me think a little about what I value in a boat, scam or not, might be of benefit someday.

James, you are the King.

The ideas that the best size of a cruising boat is of a personal choice and that we should be happy with our choices are not really very deep nor unique. But the honor goes to you for the lack of respect displayed toward your fellow sailors. To insinuate that we could not have thought of those premises without your help shows you have a mighty opinion of yourself. Don't ask us for ours.

Nice Job James

At least you didnt use the old broken English routine. But I think your demonstration was a total failure on your part. You just made some statements that actually show that you learned nothing. First of all you used the figure of 100K, which I took to mean that is how much you wanted to spend. Now you mention that unless you have 'serious bucks'....well, how much is serious bucks to you? Im sure that serious bucks to some people on here means $5K and to others it means $500K. Your next statement..."there is really 'NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES' between any of the Cruising boats you could choose from in the entire size range 30 to 45 feet." NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE?....WHAT PLANET DID YOU FALL FROM? And for one of your last statements, "....the final selection ALL comes down to a matter of a few personal choices.... Nothing could be further from the truth. If you just for a moment discount, the keel configurations, sail plans, and all the technical stuff, you are left with one final truth. And that is...how much fuel and water can you carry. If you take a decent amount of each, than all else dont matter. Fuel and water are not personal 'choices' thay are necessary for survival. And I'm sure there are lots of people out there that never cruised before have their encyclopedias handy to reference the one in 10,000 that dont need either. Anyway, I dont think of it as a scam, lots of posts on here are more obviously not serious posts either.
