The Color of Wood

My 1992 35.5 is fitted on the interior in a light color [almost pecan color] wood. It is not dark like teak nor does the grain of the wood appear to be the same as teak. I like the light color and was wondering what the wood happens to be. One explanation I heard from another Hunter owner is that in the early 1990s it was difficult getting good teak so Hunter substituted with a different species of wood altogether and offered it as an option . .another piece of scuttlebut is that the wood is called "rum rum" from Costa Rica. Does anyone know the truth and what kind of wood this is. Fred M S/V M Squared

Most of the wood used in Hunter Boats is teak, I know this because my hands touch the wood everyday, getting it smooth, and shiny for our proud hunter owners!

Teak.... comes in different shades and grains

I know, because I have done enough projects on my boat that I have found many different shades of teak. Some dark, some light, some dark and light all in the same piece of wood. I hear, but not sure of this, but the word I get is that the lighter the teak, the finer quality and more expensive it is. However, I can tell you Teak... does.. vary depending on the cut and the grain and perhaps the region that it comes from.

Teak Variations

This may be a bit late, but I hope it helps. I do woodworking in my spare time and as a result I have found out some facts about teak and why all would vary in grain, colour
