Some one asked a week or so ago if anyone had heard about a catamaran crashing at the I-10 bridge on Lake Ponchatrain. I had heard nothing about it, and apparently no one else had either. This afternoon I asked my next door neighbor who is a Sheriff's dept water patrol deputy. Find out he was the first responder. What he found was an 18' catamaran hull, floating upside down, and one life jacket. Hull pretty well torn up.
No one anywhere near it. After talking with the coast guard, and fish and wildlife, with no one knowing squat, the coast guard called him and requested he call them on a land line. When he called, they said they had the owner of the boat on the phone. Seems as if the trailer came unhithced, and another car hit the boat/trailer, knocking it over the guard rail into the lake. Owner said he wasn't going to come get it, or have anyone to come get it. They informed him he would be liable if someone hit it he would be liable, but don't know what he ended up doing.
