Any suggestions for I am up for a new pair. Have been using Musto HPX but am looking around for recommendations.

Most of the fishermen
around here, and the farmers, and most of the rest of us by black "gum boots" with red rubber soles from Canadian Tire. They don't mark the deck, they're cheap, and they are as comfortable as the high priced boots. There is a yellow model with a tan or white sole that's a bit more expensive, rated for chemicals, I think. A lot of commercial boat guys cut the tops down so the boots are just high enough to get well inside your pants or rain pants. Of course plenty of folks by the stylish boots too. Nothing wrong with them except initial investment.

Shrimper boots

Boots
I use a pair of good Gore Tex hiking boots. All the rubber boots are just too hot. Maybe if I lived in the frozen north, but the hiking boots work fine for me. And no, they don't leave black skuff marks on the boat.

I have a pair of short (6in.) Gill Ocean boots. They Keep my feet dry, but are not very comfortable on long races of more than a day. I tried on my friends Dubarry ocean boots and fell in love with them. Comfort, dry, great looks, and did I say comfortable?? They are the BEST boots I have ever worn. They are however expensive. I have always followed the rule, you get what you pay for. You can buy $20 rubber fishing boots, $50 sailing bost, or $300 boots. It depends on what you value more....keeping your money in your pocket or having quality equiptment.

This afternoon I filled a can with water and dropped one of my one pound fourteen ounce Wellington hunters into it. It sank! So I sliced 1 inch thick sections from a swim noodle 2 5/8 inches in diameter and with a 5/8 inch hole in the middle. 3 of them were enough to bring the boot to the surface. Next I recovered the noodle pieces and filled a cylinder(read that as tin can) with water and pressed the noodle sections into the can and then took them out. My next move was to refill the can. It took 275 milliliters of water. Therefore the boots when submerged will have a negative bouyancy of 275 grams each. About 1/2 pound. Not exactly an anchor but something that would tend to tire you quickly without a PFD.
