Can anyone recommend a good value handheld VHF radio ? I am looking at several from Entel, Raymarine, Icom, Silva and Simrad ??? Thanks

Have had mine for three years with no problems (I actually have the 370S which is functionally identical but a little more dough). Good range and battery life. Seems like it is built to last - should be around $100.

Standard Horizon
I have a hummingbird handheld and the battery went dead on it shortly after I got it in 2000 when I retired. However, I have a Standard Horizon Voyager radio on my boat that I bought in 1987, and it's still going strong today. This radio was way ahead of most radios of it's day with scanning, PA, intercom, and 40 channels expandable to 55. It also has LED display and both American and International weather channels. If I was to get a handheld to replace my Hummingbird, I'd definitely buy a Standard Horizon.

The October issue of Practical Sailor did a test of hand held VHF's and rated according to Budget buy, Recommended and Best choice as follows: Budget buy: Standard HX270S at about $100 Recommended: Uniden Atlantis 250G at about $100 Best choice: Uniden MHS350 at about $150 For the details see the October 2006 issue. Uniden Atlantis 250
I have the Atlantis 250 and am quite pleased with it. The price was right, without too many extras that I would not likely use anyhow. It is not submersible.
