The 222 O'Day

Newbie looking at used O'DaysIn so doing I'm discovering boats leaking at the chain plates. Some have been repaired and the question is, is there a recommended procedure for this on at 222? In other words when I see one repaired or needing repair what do I look for. As I look at other boats and brands I see some need replacing too. Is this a real problem for the 222 model?Thanks in advance.py charlie

Re bed chainplates every year

I rebed my chainplates every year and when we get to the heavy rains they still leak. will do it again this year too. they are dry most of the year. and it is just a boat. boats require maintenence.

through the deck on the 222

LarryThis is what I was looking for. I wonder if you also put blocks on the back ( bow side )? Do you know where the c-plate comes up through the deck, if that part of the deck is cored with either wood or foam?.Your boat does look very nice. I can't wait to find a desent ship too.

leaking chainplates

I also had the typical leak at the chainplates , we noticed it in the head sink and traced it up to the thru hull chainplate. I was advised to use a product at my local boatyard called sikaflex 292 because it stays flexible. 1st clean out all the old caulk then check for any damage to the bulkhead we did not have any real damage and the extension below decks seemed to be solid so I did not feel it neccessary to replace the bulkhead.Now u r ready to caulk, we put the cover on over masking tape then cut the outline and got a really clean look after we were done . Good luck , I also was told to rebed them every year. I only did this repair last year so I'll see what it looks like this spring.

You fix sure seems simple enough. The blocks sandwich the bad part of the bulk head, therefore the blocks is secured to the good wood of the bulk head.
