We have a 2001 C320 (#851)Last year the salon table went down WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY and was even more difficult to raise.This season it is almost impossible to lower it. And YES, we loosened the knob on the top of the post.We lubed it, "worked" it. We removed the table top and uncrewed the pedestal from the sole. We rotated it, compressed it. Nothing helps. It is almost impossible to get it down and even more difficult to raise it. There are times when we really could use that space at night but we have given up on it. Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone found a solution? We'd appreciate all the input we can get.thanks-Bob SeidenIsle of Wight (Hull # 851)

Yup, almost every C320 owner has uttered them words! I think it was Joe Barrett who said that you have to exert steady downward pressure *exactly* centered over the post to get it down. If it ever stops raining & I get out to my boat, I'm going to try it.--RonD

Hi Bob, I also own a C320. The trick to the table is where you put presure, it must be above the post, once you get used to how the table moves you'll be able to wiggle & wagel it into place. You are missing out on a great birth underway, my table stays down all the time unless we are using it for dinner. Thanks for the responses. We know about applying pressure directly above the top of that salon table post. Believe me, we've done that.It goes down about 6 inches and STOPS! We use is more for sitting around and "hanging out" than for a berth. But we do expect to have use for it this season and are still looking for a solution. Has anyone taken that spring-loaded post apart???thanxBob Seiden

My commander decided that since we won't be using that berth space aboard, who needs the big old table....he's just put the last coat on a 2-foot diameter round replacement top that will enhance our cocktail hour and provide us with more cabin space all around! We are hull #909 and did find that the pressure had to be applied in just the right spot.

Listen To Joe.....

Joe is right ....I just purchased my 320 was experienced the same problem....If you get right over the post and push and apply more of your weight as it lowers you will be able to lower the table.....To raise it I just sit on the floor and place my knees under and lift with both knees equaly...You think Catalina would have re- engineered this by now....Good Luck!
