Thanks to everyone for the responses to my C/B problem. All had very good advice. I dove one more time to further examine the situation, and found several barnacles (of course) up in the centerboard trunk. From that, I concluded use of anything other than a SS wire rope would be short lived, and quite quickly abraded to early failure, at least in salt water. Hopefully, D&R will allow me to return the pendant I had purchased from them. I intend to source a halyard with a ball end swaged to the wire rope end. Hopefully, D&R can make this for me. I am making a yoke that will secure the ball end. The yoke will pivot or rotate, keeping the rope end vertical to prevent bending of the wires as the C/B travels thru it's arc when raised or lowered. The original design caused the wire to bend and flex where it entered the C/B, and of course, fatiqued the wire strands to failure. I believe this is the root cause for the failure, as the old wire rope separated at the point where it entered the C/B. The remainder of the wire rope was in very good shape. At any rate, I will report on how this modification works out, and what I encounter during the repair. I really appreciate your comments and am gratefull to have discovered this excellent website. Would like to here from Geof on how cold the water was and what you found under there.

Joe - I didn't get a chance to go under the boat yet. Though we did go sailing, we snuck in some time late on Saturday and early on Sunday around the Little League schedule. Anyway, I'm going to try this weekend. It was in a slip until last Monday and the water there is incredibly murky. I moved it out onto the mooring on Monday afternoon but ran out of time. The water there at least moves through with the current and seems a lot clearer. I'll let you know what I find out. Geof
