Thanks to everyone who responded to my oil changing woes. I combined several suggestions and had success at last! I removed the filler cap and used that "little brass pump" with a two or three foot section of 1/4" copper tubing as the pick up hose. It worked great, but still.... there must be a better way! Thanks again, Ernie

Better way

I'm replacing my 2GM with a 3GM30F. Prior to hauling the 3 up into the boat I removed the oil pan, (24 bolts and some judicious prying) drilled and tapped 3/8" pipe thread into the existing boss at the corner of the pan. When the engine's in place it will get an elbow, valve, barb and short length of hose. Hose end, capped, will normally be above oil level. To change oil just drop hose into receptacle and open valve. There's plenty of room under the engine for this. I'm a firm believer in completely draining old oil and this should do it a lot better than the little pump and tube deal.
