Yes I will be the first to admitt I'm green and wet behind the ears when it comes to sailing. This is the reason I asked the question. I hope there will be many more. I replaced all the thru hulls and seacocks ( Gatevalves) on my 1984 Hunter 31 last year and used bronze. I had heard some stories about the "plastic" thru hulls and decided to go with bronze thru hulls and seacocks. Thanks everyone for the thoughts and imputs. Gord wins with the very nice answer and I will lay my worries to rest! Thanks Gord.

John, no problem. And you are correct.
People should worry about regular plastic thru-hulls on boats. They can and do fail (sometimes very easily). Just make sure the ones on the boat you are looking at are Marelon. BTW what year boat are you looking at?

has a very good review avail on the boat. As I recall, the only consistent critique concerned the chainplates--obviously something to be addressed in your survey, and from the sound of it, checked regularly. They're very nice boats... Good luck, Bill
