Last week I asked for help winterizing the AC on H320. Of the many responses, Doug's proved the easiest... 1. Disconnect both thru-hulls. 2. Funnel antifreeze into top hose. 3. Observe until pink exits lower hose. 4. No need to run the pump while exeucting. This week I'm wondering how to re-prime the thing when relaunching in spring. Does the fact that it's now full of antifreeze achieve the prime, or is there something else I should do? Thanks.

Remove hose at air conditioner

I found that removing hose at the air condition allows pump to prime quickly. Don't know why but it works.

Doug...

it breaks the back pressure against the pump lifting water and pushing against the trapped air in the system. Once it can move fluid, it will work.

Yes, but which hose?

Top hose is intake, I believe. Bottom hose is outflow. Doesn't opening either break the flow, and hence admit air into the system?

only gets into the system when fluid is displaced. Opening the upper hose will generally not admit air as the fluid in the system doesn't move. Opening the lower hose alone would let a certain amount of fluid out and air to replace it due to gravity. If you put the funnel in the upper hose and opened the lower hose, pouring from above should displace the water with antifreeze as gravity moves the water column out and replaces it with the antifreeze. The question had to do with pump prime. If there is no resistance to the pressure of the pump trying to pump fluid, it will prime fast. An air bubble can cause the resistance as the fluid tries to compress it to get it to move through the system.
