JOBEE

Don,
Just wanted to say thanks for the "Bible" on how to set our sails on my Catalina 30. I bought your book about 4 years ago but gave up on it. However, coming back from a 30 mile trip I got tired of other boats passing us, so I found the 2 sheets and told my crew to adjust our sails to them. Wow, we didn't get passed after that and one of the boats that caught up to us we left in the dust. In our weekly races at our club, we starting using the "Bible" and have finished in the top 3. We are able to point higher, maintain a smoother ride and handle the boat so much eaiser. the only thing we don't have is you telling us what else we could do to make us sail faster. But I'm not complaining, just saying thanks for putting all of this done on paper for us beginners.

My Pleasure

Jobee: What a pleasure to open my Email today and read your comments. It made my day.

If anyone cares to check the testimonials in the back of my book they will find many sailors who have experienced the same thing that Jobee has experienced. In fact, if you are a middle to back of the pack racer and take the time to learn the sail trim things I explain and put them into practice, I GUARANTEE you will gain at least 3 position.

Jobee, I would love to be on your boat but you know what there is not much more I could tell you. Sail trim is not rocket science. Actually, I thought it was when I was trying to make sense of it but it really is very simple and it does not go on and on like nuclear research. It is more like riding a bike.

A number of years ago, a youg couple from Dana Point, Ca contacted me after they had digested my book and chart. They felt like Jobee that maybe there was more to it - which there isn't. If there was I would have included it. Anyway they want tme to go for a sail with them. We went through every point of sail and a few changes in wind. I never said a word. They said what can we do better? The answer was NOTHING!! I told them to either take me back to the dock or lets just have a great day sailing around. We did just that.

Jobee, here's the deal. The Chart tells you WHAT to do and the book tells you WHY you are making a particular sail trim adjustment. The WHY is everything and the WHY is what makes you a better sailor. If I ffed a monkey enough bananas and handed him my chart I could get him to set up the boat pretty well but he has no idea WHY he is doing it. Additionally, the WHY helps you make sail trim adjustments faster

Get back to reading the book!!! Thanks again for ther kind words.
