I have now learned how to properly trim my main sail. I had to unlearn lots of stuff learned from bendy masts and powerful vangs from racing dinghies. After reading your book, and figuring how to translate the traveller concepts into vang sheeting on an end-boom mainsheet, I now think I've got it down.
Been out recently in some pretty windy, gusty conditions, and I've been able to keep all three leech telltails streaming on the main, and the boat seems to stay on her feet better as well. (Obviously because the top of the main is drawing but not over trimmed...)
My jib sheet fairleads are not moveable, and though this does bother me when the top of the jib is luffing a bit and I can't do anything about it, I'm still sailing my boat better and faster, sometimes keeping up with longer boats and once in a while outpacing them.
Makes my motto "sail it like you stole it" that much easier!
