This message thread is dedicated to the Dock Workers at the Marinas on the Chesapeake Bay, and other areas hit by Isabel. Our boat is at Tidewater Marina in Havre de Grace, MD. Given what they had to deal with, I think their staff did a great job. They worked all day Thursday and Friday. When I finally got on my boat today, it was obvious that the workers were on my boat making adjustments to keep it safe. A few minor scratches was the extent of my damage. Here's another 'satisfied customer' from a marina in Havre de Grace... I, too, was at 'my' marina to check on my boat at the island. Although I couldn't get 'out there' until today, (Sun.),I was there on Fri and Sat. and was horrified at the damage to the buildings and machinery on the parking lot, the tons of seaweed, etc., but the boats and various owners looked very happy to have survived Izzy. Today, with all the hard work done by Gere's 'crew', the elec co., street cleaners, bulldozers, trash trucks, backhoes, etc., it looked almost like nothing happened. Too bad the promenade didn't fare so well! Thank you! Linda H.......island hopper

I keep my boat at Holiday Point Marina and I'd like to second, third, etc., the kudos folks have bestowed on the Chesapeake marina crews. HPM suffered a few stretches of ripped up dock, but only one boat, a small "unsinkable" model, sank. Thanks to additional docks lines thrown on by the staff, my boat suffered only minor chafe on the rub rail. Most of the other 250 boats in the marina seemed to fare as well. No boats broke free. (Some of the boats which had been hauled and blocked before the storm ended up floating when the flood tide arrived, and they were "driven" back to their slips from the parking lot.) The marina owner spent the night of the storm at the marina to keep an eye on things. The really sad part is that the only serious damage was to the marina itself...the office was under 4 feet of water. Ronnie took care of everyone except himself.

There was a time when I compulsively subscribed to 6 magazines because I just didn't want to miss anything. Then I realized what a huge chunk all those subscriptions were taking out of my budget - and quit. I sure miss 'em though - I love to dream!
