I would like to spend some late winter free time in the state of Texas in 2007, however I am hearing some bad news on the lake levels in southern Texas and would like to know what the conditions are really like before I commit hard earned dollars for a reservation. I like Canyon Lake and Lake Corpus Christi, if they have water and the marinas are open. I have found a good looking house on Canyon Lake for the month of March with a private dock at an affordable price. and would like to take advantage of the offer if I can. I live in San Antonio about 30 miles south of Canyon Lake. I also used to have a house at Canyon Lake for many years and kept my boat at a local marina even after I sold my house. Yes, the water level is a tad low but nothing that should interfere with your decision. There's still more than enough. It's a great sailing lake although the winds can get pretty strong and gusty during the winter. Still, there are plenty of days even in January when you'll be sailing under blue skies with 65 degree temperatures. Probably the best marina to use is Canyon Lake Marina on the north side of the lake rather than Cranes Mill on the south side.

Travis is low now, but by march you should be fine
Lake Travis in Austin is real low. So low that there are no public boat ramps open. However, it almost always fills back up by late November with runoff from rain. If you are coming in March, things will likely be quite different. For the highland lakes, go to www.lcra.org for current lake levels. That will cover lots of lakes in central texas. I know that Lake Lavon in Dallas is also very low. Other lakes are fine.
