Has anyone crossed the gulf from Texas to Florida (Key West) this time of year and if so what route did you take? We're going over for a few weeks and then coming back before hurricane season really gets going. I've not gone this exact route across the gulf before so I'm curious what others have done. Rhumb line is directly into prevailing wind, so its either south a long ways then east, or east along the shelf before south. I like the south then east route as it gets out of the shallow chop quickly. I've been watching the gulf stream currents for awhile and still not sure which is best route. Coming back I'll probably go extended coastal just to stay close enough should a storm come up in the W. Caribbean or closer. Cheers, Mark
