I've been gone to work for a few days and in my absence it has rained in Texas, A LOT! I keep my boat on Lake Lewisville (AKA Lake Death) which was a little high before this weekend. I had no idea how much it would have gone up. Following are some photos of the lake. The first one is the parking lot at the marina that last week was dry.

Same here...

When we left our boat on Sunday the walkway was in its closest possible position to land and the water level was about two below the walkway. By Thursday afternoon the lake level is forecasted to be above that point by 15 feet. I hope it drops by the 4th.

Are they charging you for a slip or a mooring? Those are crazy pics. Thanks for sharing.

Not sure how our boat is doing....

We haven't had a dry day in over 2 weeks. It has been the wettest May/June here in a looonng time. As luck would have it, we are selling our current home and moving into a newly built one northeast of Tulsa. (Closer to the lake where the boat is kept.) We are downsizing and started the house in March. With the wet weather, the inside is almost completed...however, the wet weather has held up the aerobic system install, the front porch, the patio, the painting, the flat work on the driveway, and on the sidewalks. The siding has been ready to paint for almost 2 months now and they haven't been able to get at it. And to top it all off, the extra wet weather we've had is now requiring us to install a French drain at our current house before we can sell it. When it rains it pours... NO pun intended.

What's new? Really!

When we were planning our trip to the Caribbean during the late '80's I studied weather satellite picture 'loops' for a year. It rains constantly in south Texas. All year long too! No one has ever explained to me why anyone lives there. Of course, in lots of counties, no one does.

" Are they charging you for a slip or a mooring?" -Yes, my normal monthly slip rental still applies. I live up in Dallas which is North Texas where it doesnt usually rain a whole lot. We have had over 1/3 of our normal anual rainfall total this month alone (and it is still raining).

How is Canyon Lake Doing?

We heard a while ago that our lake view from our property may go away. Is the rain getting that far south?

Canyon

Rick, Canyon Lake is at 910.93'. Normal level is 909' so I'd say things are pretty good there.

Looks like Travis is going to be closed a while

My usual night time sail on the 4th of July is not looking good now. The lake is officially closed to recreational boating. It is still rising. It may hit 20 feet above full by Sunday.

Lake Texhoma

The Corp of Engrs are saying that Lake Texhoma will creast at 636 on Jul 9. The spillway is 640 feet. This is 17 feet above the normal elevation at this time of the year. This is a large lake and it is going to be even larger. Most of the land on the Okla side is low and the lake will spread out.

Update

I just got the dreaded phone call from our marina manager. A squall came through awhile ago that produced 4 to 5 foot waves and blew our dock apart. It's wrapped around a power pole. I was told that our boat was not damaged but our neighbors' were. I'm to be there at daybreak to move our boat to another slip. Will I sleep tonight? Stay tuned!

That really sucks your dock was distroyed. I'm glad your boat is okay though. It looks like more storms for atleast the next few days. I sure hope this stuff dies down soon. I like the occasional storm but this is just plain rediculous. I went down to my marina earlier today. The water is even higher. The only way to my boat now is full out swim or, luckily, the marina is running a shuttle to the various dock clusters. The top of flood stage for Lewisville is listed at 632.0 feet. It is currently showing above that height and they finally started to release water again.

On July 6, for the third time in history, water will go over the emergency spillway. We are watching the water creep up to our yacht club and also hoping that the docks don't drag in a storm. And it is still raining.

Lake Grapevine

Lake Grapevine was about 15 feet down at the beginning of the year at around 520 feet vs its conservation level of 535, it is at 553, so a swing of around 33 feet this year alone. On the bright side of things at 520 I had about 6 inches of clearance between the bottom and my keel, so now I don't have to worry too much about getting out on the lake. Regards Bruce.

Brings back some (bad) memories ...

You all (ya'll) down there in Texas sure have my sympathy ... and prayers. A few years ago, Carlyle Lake (IL) where I keep my boat crested 15 ft above summer pool. All the docks were completely exposed to waves coming across the lake. Lots of damage, and no sailing for 1/2 the season. If you actually get to sail this year, it will be in the company of humming-bird-sized mosquitoes, lots of floating logs and other trash to mess up your boats, dirty water, etc. Not to mention cleanup parties, destroyed infrastructure, on and on. Again, I'm shaking my head knowing what you have to look forward to. Makes me sick to my stomach. Tom Monroe Carlyle Lake
