I'm considering purchasing a vessel located currently in Rockport, TX and then moving it to Kemah. I would prefer sailing it to Kemah via the ICW rather than transport. I'm not familiar with the ICW and know that I would need to have an experienced person go with me.

My question: If we anchor at night and travel by day, how long will it take to make the trip? Any suggestions re: anchor locations? Thanks.

It's in the neighborhood of 200 miles
averaging 5 knots it should take 40 hours of sailing or motoring time.
5 days at 8 hours a day
I'd like to make that trip, but I do not have a lot of experience sailing,
however my mechanical and problem solving skills are extensive.
I would be interested in helping you make this move.

I did deckhand on a tug from tampa, Fl to west palm beach around the icw in back in 2000

What sailboat?

What sort of sailboat are you considering? I've sailed the route many times over the years. Now sailing a Catalina 28 out of North Padre.
Give me some details on your plan, timing, etc.

It's a two day trip, sun up to sun down (and then a few hours in the dark in Galveston Bay) during summer hours. I've stayed at a marina on the ICW about half way...I think it was Madagoria City Marina.

Oh yeah, there isn't anything to that trip to worry about except one low spot in the middle of the channel just after Madagoria Bay.

Thanks all. I'm looking at an Irwin 25.3 but not sure yet if that's the way I'll go. I'm looking at other options, but wanted to get a feel for the timeframe.

Txtowman, if that's the direction I go, I'll keep you in mind. Thanks again for the responses. Big help.
