I had the same problem

In the Big Boats forum this morning. I couldn't post a reply to it. When I clicked on 'submit,' it went to the forum page--the list of threads. I ran a test post in a couple of other forums, didn't have any problem with those.So I don't think Fred's problem is his new mouse either.

That was a helpful clue. I installed some diagnostics and hopefully I'll know exactly what's up by morning.
