Test the waters

To follow up on my post earlier this month on "Unusual leak," I'm flummoxed whether the water is really coming through the boat into the bilge. I'm told it may be washing down from the gunnels and stanchion leaks and still taste brackish instead of clear. I'd like to take one sample of river water and one of bilge water and get them tested to see if this is true. Does anyone know of a lab that will test the samples? Thanks.

Do it yourself?

Hi Bill, If you have samples of the two types of water you can get a salinity test kit at your local pet/fish store. They are used to test salt levels in tropical fish tanks and might give you some idea what's going on. They aren't very expensive (around $25 for a cheapy) and are easy to use. Just an idea if you're into the do-it-yourself thing!
