I have been looking at these post,s for a year now, I am ready to buy a new Mac M26.The problem I have is, I have never sailed a boat in my life. I am 64 yrs old and I am not sure I can manage it.I have been to see Bill at Boats4sail, he seems to think I would be OK. I live 30miles south of Cleveland, Ohio. I would like to know if anyone in my area has a Mac M26 that would take me for a short trip so I would be better prepared when and if I do decide to spend $30000 on a new boat.I hope to be a new captain soon.Thanks for reading my post.

To sail.... or not to sail....
I'll start asking around. I am good friends w/ the owner of a boat store in akron and i'll have him put the word out as well. From what I have seen the mac 26 is super easy but then I have never sailed one. Jenn (my other half) is a librarian and works with a retired fellow who has sailed since he was 13. He's our living knowledge base maybe if you talked some with him also? Where are ya exactly? I live in copley which is right next to akron. If all else fails you could call magregor (949-642-6830) and ask for a local dealer that would take you out before you buy. When I called they were very helpful and even sent me a photocopy of my 1974 users guide. I hope some of this helps. Jason

Talk to yourt local yacht club.
There are lots of people who are willing to take out a newbie just for the company or an extra set of hands. They may try to talk you into a big boat and becoming a club memeber, but hold fast tro your trailerable dreams. Lots of Mac owners in yacht clubs.

PS, When you're Ready To Buy...
...insist the dealer take you out for a spin on one. This will help clinch if the power-sailer is the right boat for you.

The elderly can sail a Mac easily...
Several in my Marina are in their mid and late 60s. One is a retired cardiovascular surgeon. No problem ! And, during Winter, we leave the mast and hardware in storage and the Mac becomes a nice "cabin cruizer" ... and great accomodations for overnighting, camping, etc. Bill at Boats4Sail is a "trusted" contributor in the MacGregor Sailors Pages ( another forum ). He is very knowledgeable !!
