Terrible Day Sailing?

Sorry in advance if this sounds like a dig at those poor unfortunates who live where the water is hard this time of year, but I had a thought while sailing I had to share - We went sailing yesterday, started the day with a nice halyard wrap problem on the furler, fixed that, then the wind died, so we ended up drifting along in 65 degree weather and dozing in the cockpit - finally motored back in around 5 pm to a beautiful sunset with a backdrop of several sailboats coming back in trying to fly spinnakers in a failing or non-existant breeze - All in all, a bad day for sailing, but still....is there anywhere else you would rather be on a day like that? In January?

Almost.

Almost rather be in front of the fire watching the Steelers steal one from the Browns. As a Pittsburgh native only sailing is better than that. :) Grew up on that river right outside the stadium, the mighty Allegheny.

Great Day Sailing

I had the same wonderful experience here in San Diego over the weekend. It was 75 degrees with a five foot swell and 4-8 knot breeze. We didn't even think of how bad the San Diego Chargers are and why they are not in the playoffs!

This was an easy weekend to enjoy the

warmth of the fireplace and the view over the lake with snow falling on a rapidly freezing surface! The reason it was so easy was the Glow of a National Championship (played as a GREAT game, too). GO BUCKS!! OSU reigns supreme!

On the Bay and a Texans Fan

Since the Texans are an expansion team they have an excuse. Wait til next Year! Yeah, right. In the NFL, you have to have experience, stay healthy and be lucky. I like football but I love sailing, so we sailed Sunday on Galveston Bay from noon til four. Started with light variable winds and ended with 8 knots with temps in the high sixties. Must have been sixty boats out there with us. Check Yaga's photos in the Photo Forum.

Hi Jim

I took mine out over here on the Northshore New Year's Day. Similar experience! No wind, even for the spinnaker, which I tried anyway. Lonely but nice out there, especially with all the traffic we get on the Tchefuncte in the summer. Beautiful scenery on the river...I'll see if I can send a shot, with some of the crew...

First Sail of the Year

I am not gloating (well, maybe a little bit), but on Saturday, it was close to 70 in the Dallas area with winds of 10 - 15 kts. I was sailing in shirtsleeves for a while then took a nap while my wife sailed. We were in a mini-flotilla with 2 other boats and several more scattered all over the lake. We even watched a fairly proficient salom skier wearing only the top half of a wet suit over swim trunks. My gauge said the water temp was around 58! Fair winds, Steve S/V Options
