You really cannot trust the bastards.

Rick: You really cannot trust the bastards. I know that they make a living doing that stuff but....... What are you going to do? We live in this society that 'no one' (not everyone) wants to take responsibility for their actions. Until the laws change (I'll be dead (not soon enough for some)) you always need to be ready for anything that can cause harm to anyone else even if it is NOT your fault.

Davis lights, and, ugh, Steve D...

Gulp ... I use (make that "used") the Davis temp anchor light routinely because it lights the deck at night and allows me to find my boat easier in the achorage. I did not know that it was not CG approved and will now use my anchor light for the very reasons cited in previous posts. If something happens, it's not approved (or doesn't otherwise meet the minimum requirements), and it's clearly noted in publications, etc., seems there's a pretty good case for neglience by the owner/captain. and Steve, not all of us are ....

3M TO THE RESCUE?

Met a transient(H40)in our marina last year. On the base of his stanchions, he had one wrap of 1" white reflective 3M tape... said it makes a HUGE difference in night anchoring...especially in a dark return by dinghy- a sweep with his flashlight and he finds his boat..

Don, Not you.

Don: I was not referring to you or any other sailor. I was referring to the maritime lawyer. Not to be confused with some very nice attorneys that may frequent this site and would never consider doing something like that. As far as using this light in the cockpit, I would think that it would be a good addition to any boat that is at anchor. I have often thought about getting one, and probably will. Not only does it alert boaters but it surely can attract some more bugs into our cockpit <g>.
