I have a 92 Hunter 33.5 and the separate temperature gauge (on my boat, its right below the starting panel starboard side) has gone haywire and reads overheated (240 degrees) when I know the boat is not - sometime it kicks back to normal so I know its the gauge thats gone bad. There is no mfg name shown and I assume its a stock gauge - I need to replace - does anyone know where or how to fnd these?

Check your wires

A temp gage is just a resistance measuring device calibrated to read in degrees F. The sender unit is just a temperature varying resister. The hotter it gets the more resistance it has. Soooooo If you have a gage reading too hot it may be a corrosion problem in the sensing circuit. Could also be corroded threads on the sending unit as they are the path to ground. Try wiggling the wires while somebody watches the gage.

If Bill's plan fails........

You might try West Marine... they have gauges & sensing units. You might try to take the sensing unit and gauge off yours and see if you find something similar at WM. abe

Temperature Sensor

You can get the sensor and possibly the gage from Mack Boring and Parts. They have a dealer directory on thier website and a regional facility in eastern MA.
