The Admiral and I are planning our first overnighter in this boat. Holiday weekend coming, feeling bold! We are planning to keep the menu simple (eggs, oatmeal, pop tarts, Seagrams , White Zinfadel. We would probably want to hit a restaurant after a long slow ride from Baltimore, then anchor out for the night. Never been there, do we go to Rock Hall harbor or Swan creek.? Warnings, Kudos please. Thanks Dave

Hi Dave,

Swan Creek is a good area to anchor out. There is a mooring field in the area, but there is plenty of room to anchor to the port side of the channel as you get to the far end of the mooring field. That area should be visible on charts, although I don't have one in front of me to check now. The drawback of Swan Creek is the long dinghy ride to get to Rock Hall Harbor by going out around the rock jetty to the harbor entrance. You will have seen that entrance as you approached Rock Hall/Swan Creek. Going to R 4 is a good idea even though you have shallow draft. Swan Point Bar is well marked.

If you go into Rock Hall harbor with your sailboat you might be able to cross the center of the harbor, BUT using the rim channel is the best way to avoid any embarassing moments. (Been there, Don that!) Go to port and then around the marks and avoid the dinks and small work boats tied to stakes in the center of the harbor.

Waterman's Crab House has docking for dinner and may still allow staying there overnight if you eat dinner there. We stayed at Rock Hall Landing on the way up from Edgewater two weeks ago. It was a quiet area on a Thursday night although the restaurant was open and well visited. The restaurant used to have shower facilities, but I think that has ended a long time ago.

Have a wonderful trip. You certainly are exercising that Precision!

Phil
