Some have told us to cut the packing with a bevel and some have said to cut it straight across. We have the advantage of an extra similiar fitting to size it up. Any comments? Teflon better than cord? Thanks.

Packing

I cut Mine at both ends with a bevel, I used the packing that is rope impregnated with teflon. The Idea is to cut each end so that when it rolls aroud the shaft it looks square with the front and rear of the shaft so it will tighten down evenly, it took several times adjusting the preload of the packing, don't ever overtighten it. snug it at first then run the motor and shut it of. and check it. They say 4 or 5 drips a minute running, but I found that it seemed to leak like that shut of also. So I went a little tighter. Maybey one drip every three or four minutes when shut of now. You can purchase a stuffing box wrench in a pluming supply store instead of boat us. I think home depot has them. I know southerlands does. Tim Welsh (cabo wabo)
