There are no suppliers in my area that sell teak wood. Anyone have good luck with any online suppliers?
On that note, has anyone ever used wood besides teak for the exterior (read cheaper) and their long term results with their choice?
It's getting time to pull the boat and do some renovations over the winter.

Teak substitute

Ipe (ee-pay) is a great substitute but it will not match existing teak for color.. Lots of folks are starting to use it for patio decks .. It is hard and oily and naturally rot resistant like teak and has a similar color when oiled..Today it is a lit cheaper but ya have to have some wood working tools and skills since it is not available in as many finished sizes as teak is.. Attached is a tool box made of the stuff and finished in hand rubbed tung oil. It is made of free scraps from a patio deck job.

Zee, I believe the wood is from Brazil but should be available in Mexico.. I think it has about the same non skid as teak.. It may be known as iron wood because it is really heavy compared to normal wood. That price sounds about right for that part of the world.. Get a scrap and play with it and see if ya like it.. When ya compare it side by side with teak, it has a very light greenish cast .. The box pictured is finished with clear tung oil so you are looking at the natural wood. Great stuff.. but hard enough to wear blades more than regular wood. Notice the table that the box is sitting on.. That is teak that has weathered a bunch on the patio .. My buddy's deck looks much better.

What are you going to use the teak for? Do you need custom made pieces for just wood boards?

I need the wood mainly for the hatch slide and some accent pieces. I would also like to do some interior work with it. I thought about using a teak laminate over plywood. I do like that other hardwood though. It turned out really nice.
