Hi;

Can anyone recommend a teak vender; I want to replace some of the teak trim on the boat. Also looking for plugs for the screw holes.

Thanks. Ilan

you can order the plugs through this site i think if not west marine has the ...as far as the trim goes do an internet search on teack trim and then open up some of the sites and go through the catalogue for that vendor and if you don't see what you are looking for try another vendor teak is an easter egg at times they don't seem to market their wares very well for some reason

Try Hamilton Marine or Defender if the SBO store does not have what you need.

If you have a drill press, buy the tapered plug tool and make your own. Just make sure to use tapered bung plugs so they will stay sealed. Before tapping them in place I used a bit of wood glue on the exterior plugs, then used a sharp wood chisel to cut off the excess, followed by light sanding with a block to smoother the plug. I didn't glue the plugs on interior surfaces. Some bung plugs are just a dowel rod sliced into plugs. I couldn't get those to stay in or seal well, especially if the hole is not drilled properly. I happen to have a broken companion way teak step that I used to make my own tapered plugs. it is kinda fun.

you can get the plug cutters at Lowes in the tool department ...they are made by Hatchie ...i have a set and will keep them on the boat ...never know when you may need a plug /bung ....i also use a japanese pull saw to cut them close to the surface and then take a paring chisel that will shave the hair off your forearm to trim them flush ....DONT DROP THE CHISEL !
