Rich,
First thing is my boat no longer has any teak trim. When I got my boat, I had no two matching pieces good. In fact in a couple of pairs both where broken. Costs of replacing that much teak on an old boat was simply too much.
I used HDPE and made replacements for all. I have previous experience in using HDPE on sailboats. And the added benefit in less maintenance.
I caulked a thin bead the length of each. I caulked each screw. The screws are absolutely important. Go to previous discussions as to which caulk to use, but since that time I have found butyl tape especially good. If I did it over, I would probably use butyl tape.
Thanks for the info on the Barlow 16. My boat had one Barlow and one Barient. I was pretty sure that the Barient came later. Anyone have an extra Barlow 16? I want to match them up.

One of the great teachers of religion and mythology, Joseph Campbell, said, "The meaning of life is to feel alive." Modern life offers people few opportunities to feel alive. Nothing about going to the mall, watching movies, working 40-50 hours a week with a 2 week vacation did it for us. I guess there are a lot of people who find that truth. I think the pursuit of feeling alive pushes some people to jump off bridges secured by a rubber band and do other crazy life-risking stuff.
Sailing is far safer than doing most of things we had to do everyday -- driving, flying, crossing the street. About 95% of the time sailing is in normal conditions, the other 5% is the challenge. While that 5% includes some conditions yet to be experienced, we have studied what others have done and are prepared for the worst. Our boat is strong and so is our determination. If all we feared was the unknown, we would have never left the house.
