Putting a kayak on deck fractured one of my thin teak trim pieces. This runs along the coach roof and is probably 8 feet long or so by 1/2 wide x 1/2 thick. Any ideas on where I can get some teak lumber so I can rip a replacement or other suggestions? How about a stainless replacement for both sides so I don't have to maintain the wood?

Eyebrows

How about a stainless replacement for both sides so I don't have to maintain the wood?
What a lot of our folks have done is simply remove the "eyebrows." Some have filled the holes and gelcoated them over, others have just put screws in with finishing washers. Others have removed the wood and replaced it with a vinyl stripe. Lotsa ways to go. The forward few feet of my portside eyebrow got knocked off by my dinghy on the foredeck. No problem, no one can see both sides of the boat at the same time! :redface:

Teak, Stainless vendors

Dave:

If the two solutions mentioned don't work for you,

Here are two names:

Boulter Plywood - Somerville, MA is the place to go for teak.
They have a huge selection and may even cut it to size for you.

Mystic River Metalworks in Noank Shipyard for Stainless or Aluminum.
Make sure you go direct to Jerry at Metalworks and not the Marina office.
If you go the office, they may bill you and mark it up 20%.

I have a piece 7/16" x 1-3/16" x 84" I could send you. I run a WW business & have a hard time throwing away scraps of pricey stuff like teak. You can have the wood & would probably be ~$15-20 to pack & UPS. Send me an email if you want.

Hi Jibes;

Joe is absolutly right, take shorty up on his offer and either plane the piece down to size or find someone to accomplish this task for you. I was going to suggest a specialty lumber yard, or even West Marine as sourses for this lumber, though it seems Shorty is a generous sort. Don't we all wish there were more folks like him.

While we're talking lumber. What's the cheapest place to get starboard?

Talk to your local sign making supply distributor. I use Hart Supply, out of Hingham, MA, and their prices are significantly better on things like Starboard, acrylic or polycarbonate.
