I have let the teak seating areas in the cockpit of my Oceanus 350 go natural. What do others use to stain/seal/oil/finish the teak so they are not slippery and can be sat on without oiling up my pants? Or should they just be scrubbed and stay gray? Thanks, Bob Gales

I use the following mix on decks and cockpit seats.

2 parts Semco Natural 2 parts Teak Wonder 1 part Olympic Deck stain (carmel color). Keeps the teak 'new' for up to 18 months before recoating. Sheds dirts easily ..... but just use water and a few 'drops' of Maguires Car Wash detergent to clean. Allows the teak to become 'wetted' for GOOD foot traction, not slippery when wet. Withstands high traffic without wearing off. Prevents the 'gray' which is continual UV destruction of the surface wood cells .... the gray being very vulnerable to erosion and wear. I apply this over freshly sanded and bleached teak ... to keep the color 'light' to keep the heat down.

Teak Guard

Teak Guard. It's water based so cleans up easily. Easy to apply and leaves a natural golden color.

Rick I have to admit your varnished teak looks beautiful.

I sure am glad that I don't have to maintain it though. It looks like your bungs are missing. is that because you remove your teak to constantly refinish it?

I used to use Cetol

but didn't really like the color or the constant upkeep. I let the seats of my '94 OC400 go gray and I like it much better.

Foam cushions is what came with our boat. doesn't your butt hurt from sitting on the wood for a long time?

We have a set of seat cushions

for the cockpit, but they're a hassle to deploy cause the cockpit of my boat is HUGE are the cushions are big and there are several of them. For underway comfort, I have two of those foldable blue seats that are so much easier to use, plus a beanbag chair and some throwable cushions if needed. We put out the nice cushions when we arrive, tho, but put them back below when time to get under way.
