Teak - oil or varnish?

After years of cleaning and oiling the teak on our boat to keep it looking great, we're thinking of trying varnish. Any comments from those that have tried both which you prefer??Thanks.Jim

Cetol for me...

Not the clear coat, just the satin. The topcoat peels away after awhile.Cheers,Bob

Honey Teak

Hi Jim,I am trying Signature Finish Honey Teak. So far I have covered my hatch boards and slides. I live in North Texas and wanted something that would hold up longer than Cetol. The company cailms it will last several years and touch only requires doing the bad spots ot dings and not the whole thing. The product was desgined for the Florida Sun, so it should work fine for Texas. I also got tired of teak oiling every two weeks and cleaning was a pain in the summer.What I have done was real easy and cleanup is simple.EJ TewsJennifer Lea

Teak Varnish-Epifane

Epifane may be the same, or just slightly more expensive than othres, but it certainly pays for itself. I used the traditional Clear varnish and their thinner the first time, when I started from scratch. Bleached wood and all.Going thru hail, and a cold winter, followed by a typical Florida summer it held up to our running sheets over the brightwork.Now were touching up with Epifane no-sanding version wich is even easier to apply. Use foam brushes for the initial coats, and a high quality varnish brush for the final finish.Go to www.epifanes.com for more info
