Ok, I made my decision to use teak & holly plywood. The vendor has unfinished at $200 a sheet, and finished at $341 sheet. Finished is teak side only, so sealing the bottom and edges will still be neccessary. If the forum would like, I can try to post pictures as I move along. My question is what product to use on the unfinished version for top, bottom, and edges. I am thinking west system epoxy, three coates on all sides to seal the wood. Then three coats of varnish to finish the teak & holly side. W.S site says the 406 hardner is not suited for clear coat. This makes me wonder if it should be used on the teak & holly side. The 407 is much more expensive, but says it is for clear coat. I will have to apply this with brush or roller as I do not have skill or equipment to spray. Will the roller give me a nice finish on the teak side? Oh, on the price of the wood, I think it will be less if I do the finishing, even with the amount of materials needed. Am I right, or have I missed something?

Here's what I did to get great results.

Use epoxy on all edges and the bottom. Use a couple of coats brushed on to completely seal it. Teak & Holly surface - I used 7 coats of the best clear varnish you can find, applied with the best bristle brush you can find. You're going to be happy with the finish.

I would coat the sides

and bottom with penetrating epoxy. Finish the top with 7 coats of Crystal varnish.

west system

Is it neccessary to apply the epoxy to the teak veneer side? Is West System 105 considered penetrating?
