I need a new cabin sole covering. It looks like a previous owner installed oak parquet flooring over the original cabin sole (what looks to be plywood with a hardwood veneer). Now the parquet is coming loose plus the plywood underneath is delaminating in several places. So . . . once I've scrape off the parquet and repaired/replaced the areas of plywood that need it, I want to install strip teak flooring. I have a friend who goes to Bali regularly and imports teak furniture. He's going to bring me back some unfinished solid teak t&g flooring at a pretty reasonable price. Anybody have any experience installing flooring? Any suggestions on what glue to use? Also, some that I have seen look like they have caulking between to allow for expansion and contraction. Any thoughts on caulking (to use or not to use, what type, etc.)? Thanks, Morrie

solid teak flooring

I took my whole sole out and replaced it with solid teak with holly inlayed in it 14" deep. My floor is 34" thick and I used rough 44 Teak that was 10 12 to 11 12 inch wide by the lenght of the sections 71" was the longest sections in my hunter 34. I glued them together with "gorrilla glue" tough stuff I tell you I wore the glue around for three days before It finally came off. Scrubbed with acetone and all other kind of cleaners. Yes it is waterproof. I am saving some pics to disk when they are devolped hopefully early next week and I will post a pick.

Tim - Gorilla glue

I was thinking about Gorilla glue. I've used it to build a dinghy that sits in the water all the time, plus a lot of other projects around the boat. The only down side I could think of is the way that stuff foams up. It's kind of a hassel to get it off every thing when it dries some times. It sure is tough waterproof stuff though! So, what's under there to glue to when you take the sole all the way out? Morrie

Going to Bali

Let me know if your friend has any extra space in his luggage for additional teak for the cabin sole on my '79 H33. I'm looking to do the same job this Spring.
