Teak Decks

This summer we purchased a 1996 Beneteau 36s7. Great boat, but my only issue is the fact that the decks surrounding the boat are a quite soft. We consulted a reputable repair company. They offered two methods to fix the weakness/flexing issue. 1. Repair the various soft areas, ie. cut out and rebuild the weak glass and gelcoat the area. 2. Glue teak onto the decks and virtually eliminate any further issue with glass repairs on this high traffic area. The cost of the teak would be higher, but the flex and softness of the decks will go away. Teak is very easy to maintain since he suggested that we avoid the varnish and let it go natural grey color. Any comments would be appreciated. Regards Paul Bradbury Toronto

Softness

Question: How covering up a weak area be improved by teak covering. It appears to first find out why the area is weak (moisture, delamination etc.)and then determine how to repair the basic substructure.

Ok...now that we have determined that there is delamination without a moisture problem. It has been suggested that we repair the deck without trying to match the nonskid. Glue not screw the teak and finish it with the black between. This will virtually eliminate any softness in the decks "forever" Comments
